A Documentary Screening Was Held at the Tirebolu Faculty of Communication in Memory of the February 6 Earthquake

A meaningful event was held at the Merve Durmuş Auditorium of the Tirebolu Faculty of Communication to mark the anniversary of the February 6 earthquake. The documentary, which explored what the earthquake took away from people’s lives and what was learned from this painful experience, raised viewers’ awareness of the issue.

In the documentary, 2024 graduates from the Journalism Department—Elif Duman, Önder Kamalak, Tevrat Güner, and Aysu Naz Kayhan—shared their experiences of the February 6 earthquake. The graduates, who shared their experiences during the earthquake, emphasized in the documentary that February 6 represents far more than just a date on the calendar; they stressed that drawing lessons from what happened and acting as a society with awareness is of vital importance.

Speaking after the screening of the documentary, Elif Duman thanked the attendees and paid tribute to her loved ones who lost their lives in the earthquake. Duman expressed her feelings, saying, “I hope they are proud of me for not forgetting them.” She also thanked Dr. Nedim Serhat Bilecen, Assistant Professor, for his support throughout the process. In his remarks, Dr. Nedim Serhat Bilecen paid tribute to Elif Buse Bozdoğan and Esmehan Kapan, faculty students who lost their lives in the earthquake. Bilecen highlighted the importance of taking necessary precautions to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
