“Smile” won the Best Student Short Film Award at the Trabzon Film Festival

The short film titled “Gülümse,” directed by Yasin Kurt, a third-year student in our Faculty’s Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema, was awarded the Best Short Film Award at the Trabzon Film Festival Student Short Film Competition, taking first place in the competition.

The Best Short Film Award at this year’s Student Short Film Competition, held as part of the Trabzon Film Festival, was awarded to “Gülümse,” a short film produced by students from our Faculty. Directed by Yasin Kurt, a third-year student in the Radio, Television, and Cinema Department, the film was supervised by Dr. Zafer Akar, Assistant Professor. The film was named the winner of the competition following the jury’s evaluation.

The production team, consisting of third-year students from the same department, included Canan Cüni, Mustafa Sakarya, Beyza Tekin, Osman Çağrı Kurt, and Ahmet Salih Uzunboy. Dr. Elif Çanğa Bayer, Coordinator of Scientific, Social Activities, and Publications for the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema, attended the festival alongside the students. “Gülümse” stood out among student films for its narrative style, technical proficiency, and cohesive structure.

The award ceremony took place during the festival’s gala night held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Trabzon. The gala program, attended by many seasoned professionals from the film industry, highlighted the festival’s artistic quality and the contributions it offers to young filmmakers.

The Trabzon Film Festival, which drew a large crowd, continued to highlight the work of young directors by featuring student productions, while “Gülümse” stood out among the festival’s notable films after winning first place.
