The 5th Universal Science Fiction and Fantasy Film Festival, which brings together science fiction and fantasy film enthusiasts in Giresun, kicked off with an event held at the Tirebolu Faculty of Communication at Giresun University.
The festival, held from May 11–13, opened in the Prof. Dr. Taner Karahasanoğlu Conference Hall. Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yağbasan, Dean of the Tirebolu Faculty of Communication, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Kurtyılmaz, the Dean’s Assistant.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kurtyılmaz noted that the festival explores the cultural, artistic, and academic dimensions of science fiction and fantasy cinema, emphasizing that such productions contribute to young people’s imagination and creative thinking skills.
On the festival’s first day, both domestic and international short films were screened for the audience. In addition to Turkish productions such as “The Galactic Plectrum,” “Paylaşılamayan,” “Once Upon a Time in Cyberspace,” and “Zemheri,” the Finnish film “Strive,” the German films “Your Body My Mind” and “Ceremony,” and the French short film “Heirate Mich” were screened.
On the second day of the festival program, the films “My Boyfriend, A Mannequin” (Russia), “Existence Zero” (Italy), “Groom From Mars” (Russia), “Volume 7” (Greece), and “Itu Ninu” (Mexico) were screened.
On the festival’s third day, in addition to film screenings, a discussion program was held at the Merve Durmuş Amphitheater with Assistant Professors Elif Çanğa and Deniz Oğuzcan. The festival, organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the General Directorate of Cinema, came to a close.
