In the “News from Tirebolu!” competition, organized by the Tirebolu Faculty of Communication at Giresun University and sponsored by the Tirebolu Environment, Culture, and Tourism Association, young communicators had the opportunity to cover Tirebolu through their unique perspectives and journalistic practices.
The winners of the “News from Tirebolu!” competition, held at Giresun University’s Tirebolu Faculty of Communication, have been announced. The awards were presented to the winners at a ceremony held on April 7 in the Merve Durmuş Amphitheater.
Students from the Tirebolu Faculty of Communication competed in three categories: “Written News,” “Video News,” and the Jury Special Award.
In the Written News category, first place went to Esma Bozkurt, a first-year student in the Journalism Department, for her article titled “The Stones of History and Memory: The Stairs of Tirebolu.” A certificate of appreciation was presented to Bozkurt by Dr. Ali Karakaya, Head of the Journalism Department. Dr. Karakaya congratulated everyone who contributed to the competition.
In the Video News category, the first prize went to third-year Journalism Department student Deniz Zehra Demirel for her work titled “Tirebolu’s TV News.” Demirel was presented with a certificate of appreciation by our Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yağbasan.
The Jury Special Award was also won by Esma Sarı, a second-year Journalism Department student, for her news piece titled “Tirebolu’s 90-Year Memory: İdemen Nakipoğlu.” A certificate of appreciation was presented to Sarı by Dr. İsmail Cem Feridunoğlu.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yağbasan, Dean of the Tirebolu Faculty of Communication, emphasized the importance of journalism and said: “Where there is one person, there is no news. Where there are two people, there is definitely news; where there are three people, news value emerges and it is worth publishing.”
Prof. Dr. Yağbasan expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ali Karakaya, Head of the Journalism Department, and other faculty members. Expressing his hope that students’ interest in the field would grow, Yağbasan congratulated the winners and thanked the Tirebolu Environment, Culture, and Tourism Association, the sponsor of the competition.
Participation certificates were presented to Muradiye Soysal, Yusuf İslam Yayla, Kerem Emre Cıdık, Gökçe Baydar, Nesrin Keskin, and Öznur Çınar, who participated in the competition, by Dr. Deniz Oğuzcan.
The ceremony concluded with a group photo.
